Anglo Arts, a cultural institution in Mexico sponsored by the Anglo Mexican Foundation with the objective of promoting bilateral cultural exchange between the two countries, will present a live broadcast of the Royal Opera House’s highly-acclaimed 2018 production of Giuseppe Verdi’s three-act opera “Rigoletto” on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 12:15 p.m. inside Mexico City’s Anglo Arts Center.

Starring Greek baritone Dimitri Platanias in the title role, with British-born Lucy Crowe in the role of Gilda and American tenor Michael Fabiano as the Duque de Mantua, the opera is directed by David McVicar, with orchestral direction by Alexander Joel.

The groundbreaking-at-the-time 1851 opera revolves around the tragic story of the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto and Rigoletto’s beautiful daughter Gilda.

Rigoletto, angered by the duke’s seduction of his daughter, plots to kill him, but Gilda, who falls in love with Mantua, betrays her father in order to save her lover.

“Rigoletto” is considered to be one of Verdi’s most important operatic works.

The Anglo Arts Center is located at Antonio Caso 127 in Colonia San Rafael.
