The St. Regis Mexico City has named hotelier Thomas Jecklin as its new general manager.

Jecklin, who has been in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years, assumed the position of head of the iconic St. Regis Hotel on Sept. 1, after having held the same post for three years at Mexico City’s Hotel W, which, like the St. Regis, belongs to the Marriott International group, the world’s largest hotel chain.

A graduate of the Thun School of Hotel Administration in his native Switzerland, Jacklin began his career in the food and drink division of the five-star Hotel Lenkerhof in Lenk, Switzerland.

He later went on to join the Starwood Hotels & Resorts conglomerate(which was purchased by Marriott in 2016), where, in 1996, he first worked at the Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel in Mexico City.

In 1997, he was transferred to Nuevo León to head up the food and drink division of Sheraton Ambassador Hotel in Monterrey.

Jecklin has also worked at the Sheraton Hotel in Cancún, the Tamarindo Golf Resort, where he took up his first general managerial post, and the Careyes Beach Resort.

In 2006, he was transferred to South America, where he oversaw hotels in Brazil, Paraguay and Chile, and later to China, where he was director of the Royal Begonia of the Luxury Hotel Collection and the Sheraton Sanya Haitan Bay.

In 2015, he returned to Mexico as general manager of Hotel W in Mexico City’s upscale Colonia Polanco.

Jecklin replaces Bernard de Villele, who has headed the St. Regis Mexico since 2014.

The 31-story St. Regis Mexico, located at Paseo de la Reforma 439, across from the Diana Fountain, first opened in 2009 and has since become a Mexico City institution synonymous with excellence in quality and bespoke service.
