After Mexican authorities reneged on a commitment to allow the airline to conduct daily flights to Mexico City, Emirates Airlines announced on Sept. 24 that its will no longer proceed with plans to begin service via Barcelona.

Emirates spokespeople said that the Mexican government had previously assured the Dubai-based airline that it could operate a daily service, Mexico changed its agreement to only allow the company to make three fights to Mexico a week.

Originally, the airline was slated to fly from Dubai to Barcelona and then on to Mexico City.

That flight schedule was approved in March, but Emirates said that the new restrictions on the route had rendered it commercially unviable.
