The body of Patrick Braxton-Andrew, a North Carolina school teacher who went missing in Mexico last month while on vacation, has been found shot to death on a dirt road near where he had been staying, according to local police officials.

The 34-year-old teacher, who was reported missing on Oct. 28 after he did not return to his hotel in the town of Urique, in the northwestern state of Chihuahua, was found with a bullet in his head on Sunday, Nov. 18, just outside that village.

A police autopsy and DNA testing this week confirmed that the remains were Braxton-Andrew’s.

Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral has stated publicly that he believes Braxton-Andrew was assassinated by drug trafficker José Noriel “El Chueco” Portillo Gil, and has promised to continue investigating the case.
