PRI Candidate Declared Winner in Hard-Fought Battle for Monterrey Mayor

After a long and hard-fought battle for the mayorship of the northern Mexican industrial city of Monterrey, centralist Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) candidate Adrián de la Garza was declared the winner by the Nuevo León State Electoral Commission (CEE) on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

De la Garza won out over his opponent, conservative National Action Party (PAN) candidate Felipe de Jesús Cantú Rodríguez in the neck-and-neck race by a recount with just 5,922 votes, 1.9 percent of all votes cast in the race.
