Former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto allegedly received a $100 million bribe from the notorious drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, according to a witness who testified in Guzmán’s trial on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The allegation against Peña Nieto, who served as the country’s 57th president until Nov. 30, when he was replaced by current Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), was made by Colombian drug lord Alex Cifuentes Villa during the ongoing trial against Guzman in New York.

Cifuentes stated that he had worked with Guzmán between 2007 and 2013, and had witnessed the bribe paid to Peña Nieto through a third party.
