Oaxacan Artist Francisco Toledo Dead at Age 79

Francisco Toledo, one of Mexico’s most renowned and esteemed plastic artists, died in Oaxaca city on Thursday, Sept. 5, from cancer, at age 79.
Toledo, a native of Juchitán, Oaxaca, is known for his abstract and politically oriented paintings and sculptures, and led an entire generation of Mexican artists.
His works are on permanent display in museums around the world, including the Tate Gallery in London, the Met in New York and the Louvre in Paris.
The cause of Toledo’s death is yet unknown.
