Two dead, 6 Wounded in Mexican Elementary School Shootout

At least two people were killed and six others were injured on Friday, Jan. 10, during a shooting at a school in Torreón, a city in the state of Coahuila in northern Mexico, the mayor of Torreón, Jorge Zermeno Infante, said.

Zermeno Infante said in an interview with Mexican TV network Televisa that the event occurred Friday morning at the private school Colegio Cervantes de Torreón, where a student armed with two weapons opened fire on his teacher, wounding another teacher and five other students before turning the gun on himself.

The injured were taken to the medical center in Torreón city.

According to the mayor, the shooter was in the sixth grade at the school and lived alone with his grandmother.
