6.1 Magnitude Quake Rocks San José del Cabo

XINHUA

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 jolted 173 kilometers to the southeast of San José del Cabo at 3:46 Mexican Central Time on Friday, May 22, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The offshore epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was initially determined to be at 22.4028 degrees north latitude and 108.1636 degrees west longitude.

AT this time, there are no serious reported damages, although the local population, about 7,000 people, evacuated their homes.

Mexican seismic authorities are currently inspecting the area and monitoring for aftershocks.
