France’s new ambassador to Mexico, Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, assumed his duties on Thursday, Oct. 15, after presenting copies of his diplomatic credentials to Foreign Relations Secretariat (SRE) Protocol Director Juan Carlos Lara Armienta, along with SRE Europe Director General Bernardo Aguilar Calvo.

Asvazadourian, a career diplomat with more than 35 years of experience under his belt, has previously served as France’s ambassador to Argentina and to the Czech Republic.

A graduate of the French Superior School of Economic and Commercial Sciences, he has also served in his government’s chancelleries in Prague, London, Copenhagen and La Paz.

In France, he served as his government’s adjutant inspector general and its Foreign Ministry’s chief of protocol.

Asvazadourian is a member of France’s Legion of Honor and its National Order of Merit.

He is fluent in French, Spanish, English, Czech and Russian.

Asvazadourian will assume his full duties as France’s ambassador to Mexico once he presents his credentials to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), on a still undesignated date.

Until then, he will bear the title of “ambassador-designate. to Mexico.”
