After eight years in Mexico, the food-delivery app SinDelantal is slated to disappear nationwide as of Friday, Dec. 4.

Representatives of SinDelantal — a subsidiary of the London-based (formerly Spanish-owned) Just Eats food-delivery app service — said that the company will cease operations in Mexico due to mounting competition from other food-delivery apps such as Uber Eats, Didi Foods and Rappi.

Founded in 2012, SinDelantal was one of the first food-delivery applications to operate in Mexico, but its market share was soon overshadowed by a surge of competing brands.

“Mexico is experiencing intense competition in the food-delivery industry,” said a SinDelantal press release issued Wednesday, Nov. 4.

“Our investors will now focus on those markets where we have a leadership position.”

The food-delivery sector has been one of the few booming industries in Mexico during the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
