US Woman Kidnapped by Sinaloa Cartel Is Rescued One Year Later

A California woman who was kidnapped in Mexico by the Sinaloa Cartel more than a year ago was rescued by police and military forces on Monday, March 9, according to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

The woman, whose name was not revealed by authorities, was said to have been found in “good health.” There was no mention by the FGR as to whether the kidnappers were paid a ransom for her release.

According to a report in the newspaper Milenio, the woman was an African-American who was held in a series of safe houses in Culiacán allegedly belonging to the Sinaloa Cartel, since her kidnapping in February 2020..

During her rescue, only one firearm shot was shot, the FGR said.

Mexican government officials said that three alleged members of the Sinaloa Cartel were arrested during the rescue operation and will face criminal charges.
