Mexico’s leftist National Regeneration Movement’s (Morena) candidate for mayor of Huetamo, Michoacán, Rogelio Portillo Jaramillo, is reportedly wanted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for the crime of conspiracy.
Portillo Jaramillo has been identified by the DEA as heavily associated with Mexico’s violent New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG), with the current intelligence file on the Morena candidate singling him out as a most wanted fugitive based on a bevy of federal-level conspiracy charges.
The DEA’s file likewise warned Portillo Jaramillo is likely armed and dangerous.
Portillo Jaramillo is reportedly 41 years of age and originally from Zirándaro, Guerrero, though he currently resides in his place of candidacy, Huetamo, Michoacán, and has likewise previously been located in Mexico City.
Morena has yet to publicly acknowledge the allegations against its mayoral candidate.
