Body of Remaining Missing Miner Recovered

The remains of the seventh and final excavation worker missing after a collapse of a coal mine in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila one week earlier were located late Thursday night, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced Friday, June 11, during his early morning press conference.

According to the Coahuila Labor Secretariat, the mine, located just outside the town of Muzquiz, collapsed Friday, June 4, when the walls of an adjoining inactive mine eroded after having been flooded.

The accident happened when the miners inadvertently struck the wall of the adjoining mine, leading to its collapse, state authorities.

The first body was retrieved on Saturday, June 5, and several others were recovered throughout the week.
