Mexico’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 7, ruled that abortions performed on rape victims cannot be prosecuted legally.

The Supreme Court stated that it is unconstitutional to penalize victims of rape who abort, even during the second or third trimester.

Currently, abortion is legal only in Mexico City and two Mexican states, Oaxaca, and, as of just recently, Hidalgo.

Before the Supreme Court ruling, any woman who end2w a pregnancy after 12 weeks could be fined and/or imprisoned for up to a year.
