The U.S. State Department, in cooperation with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), issued a Level 3 “reconsider travel to Mexico” advisory on Monday, July 12, due to surging covid-19 infections and increased crime levels.

The advisory came as covid cases in Mexico continue to rise, with more than 11,000 new cases recorded on Tuesday, July 13, the highest daily figure since the start of the year.

In addition to the danger of possible coronavirus infections, the State Department advisory warned U.S. citizens not to travel to the states of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas because of a growing rate of violence, including homicide, kidnapping, vehicle theft and armed robbery.
