The members of the Va Por México alliance, which consists of centralist Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the conservative National Action Party (PAN) and the left-leaning Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), announced they would be going to the Organization of American States (OAS) on Monday, Aug. 23 to denounce the involvement of organized crime in Mexico’s electrol process and the complacency of the currently in-power leftist National Regeneration Movement (Morena) to that fact.

“Organized crime is fully involved in the electoral processes, in addition, with the complacency and public gratitude of the government,” said PRD leader Jesús Zambrano. “It is something that is embarrassing us all.”

“We are facing elections with the intervention of criminal groups, who are intimidating, threatening, persecuting, kidnapping, beating and even killing many of our candidates and political leaders,” continued PAN President Marko Cortés.

“Electoral violence cannot be present and threaten us. It leads us to participation that is not equitable, it violates democracy and leads us to authoritarianism,” added the head of PRI Alejandro Moreno.
