AMLO Contracts Covid-19 for Second Time

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) tested positive for covid-19 on Monday, Jan. 10, after announcing earlier in the day that he had woken with a soar throat and mild flu-like symptoms.

AMLO made the announcement of his infection himself late Monday via his Twitter account, adding that he will isolate and work from his office until the virus has passed.

According to National Palace sources, AMLO had received both a two-dose AstraZeneca vaccine against covid in mid-2021, plus a booster of the same medication late last year.

The president previously contracted covid in January of last year.

AMLO said that  Interior Secretary Adán Augusto López will represent him in the morning press conferences and other official acts while he is in quarantine.

In the morning, the president was hoarse and appeared to be congested, but did not wear a mask.

This morning, the President appeared hoarse and constipated at the morning conference, despite which he did not wear a mask.

López Obrador also led his usual security meeting at the National Palace on Monday, with cabinet officials and Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum in attendance.

He also interacted in the morning with the head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) Ricardo Sheffield and his head of press, Jesús Ramírez, as well as members of the media.

This is the second time that López Obrador has contracted the coronavirus.
