Just eight months after taking office, the mayor of the town of Teopisca, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, Rubén de Jesús Valdez Díaz, was shot dead on  Wednesday, June 8, in the Los Altos region of the state, local authorities reported.

Valdez Díaz, who in June 2021 won the elections under the Green Party (PVEM), was attacked outside his home in Teopisca.

His body was discovered several hours later inside his van.
