The Italian film “Gods of Mexico” will be presented at the National Museum of Anthropology between Monday, June 13, and Thursday, June 16.

The documentary film, directed by Helmut Dosantos, delves into ancestral life in rural Mexico, showing how it has resisted the advances of modern society.

“Gods of Mexico” presents an epic journey through the nation’s  jungles, deserts, mountains, salt flats and underground mines, exploring the multiculturalism of Mexico’s indigenous peoples and Afro-descendant communities across Mexico.

Hailed as “a tribute to those who fight to preserve their cultural identity amidst the shadows of modernization,” Dosantos’ movie transports audiences the social and geographic landscapes of Mexico today, in both richly saturated color and black-and-white melodic interludes.

During the initial Mexican showing at the Anthropology Museum’s Jaime Torres Bodet Auditorium on Monday at 5:00 p.m., director Dosantos and his crew will be on hand to answer questions from the audience.

There will be additional screenings of the film on Wednesday, June 15, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Thursday, June 16, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Parallel to the projection, there will be an exhibit of 10 still images from the film in the museum’s gallery through Sunday, July 3.

There is no cost for either the films or the exhibit.
