For the eighth year in a row, the coastal Mexican city of Zipolite, Oaxaca, is slated to host the Mexican Nudist Federation’s (FNM) annual bare-it-all extended weekend from Wednesday, Jan. 31, through Sunday, Feb. 4.

But unlike previous festivals, this year’s enNud will have less of a party ambience and more of a public conference style aimed at creating greater awareness of the practice of public nudity.

More than 3,000 nudists from across Mexico and 18 countries are expected to attend, according to the Association Civil Bi Shieeladi Festivals and Culture, one of the main organizers of enNud.

“The transition from a party ambience to a social meeting is basically due to the need to change the emphasis of the event, to allow more creative expression,” said Juan Marcos Castañeda of the enNud organizing committee.

One of the main objectives of enNud is the socialization of the practice of nudism, driven by values such as tolerance and respect, which without a doubt contributes to strengthening the tourist influx of the area, he added.

Zipolite Beach, the only public nudist beach in Mexico, has allowed visitors and residents to bare it all since 2016.

Castañeda said that the economic and social importance that enNud represents is reflected in a projected hotel occupancy of more than 90 percent and a tourism revenues of nearly $75 million for the Huatulco-Puerto Escondido corridor, thus promoting tourism across the coastal region and in Oaxaca in general.

“For the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla (where Zipolite is located), tourism represents the second-most-important economic activity in the region, accounting for 23.2 percent of annual income, and enNud accounts for 15 percent of Zipolite’s total annual income,” said Jair Flores, president of the Zipolite Hotel and Motel Association.

During the event, there will be a range of organized social activities such as, yoga classes, walks on the beach at sunrise, beach volleyball, body painting, dance therapy, sound therapy and body drawing, as a well as a three-kilometer race.

The FNM’s previous nudist festivals were also held in Zipolite, which is a small beach community located between Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

The FNM nudist festival is open to all.
