On Thursday, May 30, Eliseo Imperial Castro – widely known as “Cheyo Ántrax” – was shot to death while driving Mexico Highway 15 in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Imperial, founder of the Los Ántrax criminal cell and the nephew of notorious Sinaloa cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, was reportedly shot 15 times during the roadside attack.

Elements of the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and National Guard found high-powered weapons and cartridges inside of Imperial’s truck in the aftermath of the incident.

Imperial had a $5 million reward for information related to his capture in the United States, where his assets were frozen by the U.S. government, before his death.
