Late in the evening on Wednesday, Sep. 18, Mexico’s Federal Judicial Council (CJF), by a majority decision, ended the nationwide strike of the Judicial Power of the Federation (PJF) workers.

Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) President Norma Piña, alongside Councilor Lilia Mónica López Benítez, were the only members of the CJF to vote against the resolution.

After a prolonged strike that began on Aug. 21 over the nation’s controversial judicial reform, the PJF workers will finally resume their duties in the judiciary on Monday, Sep. 23.

The CJF also agreed to reinstate deadlines and time limits for trials conducted in Mexico’s federal courts and administrative agencies.

Furthermore, the council declared its intent to safeguard the rights of PJF workers nationwide, announcing a meeting on Friday, Sep. 20 with a range of federal justice administrators to discuss and implement these measures.
