According to new numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, Mexico’s exports to the United States grew by 6.4 percent annually in 2024, reaching a historic level of $505.851 billion.

The year’s economic activity placed Mexico as the United States’ number one source of imports, making up a total of 15.5 percent of the U.S. import sector, said the Census Bureau.

Meanwhile, the United States’ next two largest trading partners, China and Canada, comprised a respective 13.4 percent and 12.6 percent of the U.S. import sector.

Mexico likewise ranked as the second-largest destination for U.S. exports in 2024, with a total share of 16.2 percent, trailing only behind Canada, which held a share of 16.9 percent for the year.

The $334.041 billion worth of U.S. goods imported into Mexico last year also represents a 3.5 percent annual increase from the year prior.

All in all, the bilateral trade between Mexico and the United States hit unprecedented levels in 2024, totaling $839.89 billion dollars at an annual increase of 5.3 percent.

With U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial tariffs on Mexican goods currently suspended until March 4, it remains to be seen if the Census Bureau’s new figures could impact the U.S. federal executive’s desire to reimplement these tariffs next month.
