A collection of more than 50 artifacts, including photographs, historic documents, daily-use items and pieces of artwork related to Canada’s snowy weather, will open at the National Museum of World Cultures on Thursday. Dec. 7.

Snow is an integral element of Canadian history and culture, and affects virtually every aspect of life in the northern country, including social relations, art and creative expression, the economy and sports.

This exhibit, titled “Nieve; Los canadienses y el frío” (“Snow; The Canadians and the cold”), provides cultural insights into the impact snow has on Canada and its people and shows how deeply entrenched the weather in is Canadian society.

The collection is on loan from the Canadian Museum of History and presents an objective and visual assessment of the different ways that the Canadian people have developed over time to cope with the difficulties and benefits of snow, adapting to the harsh environment that the cold weather provokes and excelling in snow-related sports, such as skiing.

The exhibit will remain on display at the National Museum of World Cultures, located at Moneda 14 in Mexico City’s Centro Histórico, through mid-January.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission fee.
