Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto is slated to deliver his sixth and final State of the Nation Address to Congress on Saturday, Sept. 1.
The annual presidential address is compulsory under Article 69 of the Mexican Constitution, and traditionally embarks all areas of the nation’s political, economic and social arenas.
This year, key topics are expected to include the transition of power to the next administration, security concerns, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiations, education and Peña Nieto’s controversial Energy Reform program.
On Monday, Sept. 3, the president will issue an oral address to the nation from the National Palace.
