One year ago today, Central Mexico shook under a powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck at 1:14 p.m. local time.

The earthquake caused damage across the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos and throughout many parts of greater Mexico City, leading to the collapse of 40 buildings and the deaths of at least 370 people.

More than 6,000 people were seriously injured in the quake.

Ironically, the Sept. 19, 2017, earthquake came on the 32nd anniversary of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, which killed more than 10,000 people.

Both of these disasters have left indelible scars in the collective memory of Mexicans nationwide.

The thoughts and prayers of the entire Pulse News Mexico staff is with the victims of this horrible disaster and their families on this tragic anniversary.
