Sometimes there is so much happening with a single company that it merits an entire column all by itself.
That is the case with Revlon Cosmetic’s new fall/winter beauty collection, which was introduced last week during a spectacular media, try-me-out presentation event at Mexico City’s trendy Hotel W in Colonia Polanco.
With more than 100 beauty writers, influencers and makeup fashionistas on hand, Revlon and its team of cosmetic artists and stylists presented both the iconic drugstore beauty brand’s new line of stay-put products and a preview glimpse into the darker, more melancholy looks that will be dominating runways and street styles alike as cooler temperatures set in.
This season, the soft pastels of spring are summer will be overshadowed by seductive plums, brisk burgundies, tempting dark chocolates and mega-intense fuchsias, while barely-there natural foundations will — for the most part — be replaced by full-cover matte makeups that hide virtually every flaw.
Eyes this season will be dark and mysterious, with muted earthy shadows kept immaculately in place with the use of a brand new Revlon Eyeshadow Primer.
To complement matted skin tones and high-on-glamour eyes, the fall/winter 2018 Revlon beauty devotee will highlight her hands and lips with deep, highly pigmented, chromatic, fashion-forward shades.
So here is a product-by-product breakdown of the new beauty items Revlon is offering this fall and winter season:
The mantra for Revlon’s latest campaign is Mexico, “Vive sin Limites” (“Live without Limits”), is a Spanish-language nuance spinoff of the company’s 2018 global campaign “Live Boldly.”
Much of the new collection is an extension of the brand’s ever-popular morning-to-night Colorstay line, with some serious additions such as Revlon Colorstay Full Cover Foundation, a combination primer and makeup formula that leaves a light, moisturizing, total coverage, matte finish that lasts up to 24 hours.
The new Full Cover Foundation comes in six shades that run the gamut from an ultra-fair Sand Beige to a darker True Beige.
There is also a new, lighter Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Filter Foundation that works like a cross between a liquid base and a BB cream to provide medium coverage and an FPS 20 protection against UV rays.
Also available in six shades, Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Filter Foundation has a built-in sponge applicator that allows you to create a natural-looking veil of color that diffuses the appearance of tiny flaws and discolorations.
And for those nasty little dark circles and red blotches, Revlon has introduced three PhotoReady Color Correcting Pens that help neutralize skin tone imperfections rather than covering them up.
Formulated with high-definition technological filters that capture and transform light to soften and diffuse complexion flaws, they work like filters to create a more unified skin tone.
A neutral tone pen corrects dark spots and dark circles under the eyes, a green pen corrects redness and irritation, and a purple pen brightens dull and pallid skin.
To finish off the face portion of the new collection, Revlon has added a PhotoReady Prep, Set, Refresh Mist to freshens and seals makeup with a fruit- and cucumber-based complex that moisturizes to leave skin soft and smooth from dawn to dusk.
We all know that Revlon is big on lip color, and this season is no exception.
The company’s liquid ColorStay Overtime Lip Color, which lasts for up to 16 hours without smudging, has four new shades: Upending Red, Never-Ending Purple, Boundless Nude and Limitless Black Cherry, while the label’s moisturizing Balm Stain, with mango, coconut and karite butters, now come in five new shades: Twilight, Moonlit Pink, Mystic Magenta, Starry Night and Prismatic Purple.
There are also new shades for Revlon’s highly pigmented Street Chic lipstick collection.
As for the eyes, Revlon’s new collection’s star is the ColorStay Eyeshadow Primer, a creamy lid base that acts like a magnet to keep shadows from fading or smearing all day long.
The nondrying Eyeshadow Primer is enriched with karite butter, is water resistant and leaves no greasy residue.
Revlon has also developed a mistake-proof ColorStay Exactify Liquid Liner with a rounded applicator that clings to the eyelid and is waterproof, as well as a ColorStay Crème Gel Pencil liner with jojoba and cottonseed oils and vitamin E to nourish in six, run-proof shades, including a sassy Gilded Gold.
Brows are in this year, and Revlon did not overlook this key facial feature.
There is a new Revlon ColorStay Brow Mousse brush with a long-lasting waterproof gel in two shades of brown for a quick grooming, and a powdered ColorStay Brow Kit with wax and color and a 24-hour staying power for a more defined look.
To complete its new fall/winter collection, Revlon has added six new shades of chromed longwear nail polish to its enamel line (promoted with the cute phrase “Chrome, Sweet Chrome”).
And since Revlon (which, after all, began its beauty industry history back in 1932 with the sale of a single nail polish) acquired the international right to Cutex in 2016, the collection also includes a handy little Cutex Swipe & Go Nail Polish Remover Pads that can slip into your purse or even get through TSA security inspections at the airport.
Although they are not new this season, Revlon is also promoting its award-winning hair tools, including its revolutionary Salon Straight Copper Smooth hair iron with extra-large plates for faster and more effective styling, and it Pro Collection 360 Degree Surround hairdryer that allows you to dry 70 percent more hair at a time for a 60 percent quicker blowout.
The brand is also relaunching its ammonia-free ColorSilk Beautiful Color with 3D gel technology for lasting, natural hair color.
