Mexico’s lavishly-decorated, Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner presidential jet headed north to San Bernardino, California, on Monday, Dec. 3, where it will be revamped and refurbished before being put up for sale.

The jet, named the “José María Morelos y Pavón” after a leader of Mexico’s independence movement, is being auctioned off as part of the new financial austerity program implemented by Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), who took office on Saturday, Dec. 1, for a six-year term.

The jet was purchased by former Mexican President Felipe Calderón, in 2012, at a cost of $368 million, and is valued today at more than $600 million, making it the most expensive presidential aircraft in the world.
