Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will pay a working visit to Mexico on Jan. 30, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced on Monday, Jan. 7, during his regular early morning press conference.

The left-leaning Sánchez, whose socialist government took office in June of last year, spoke with AMLO a few days earlier.

The visit will be the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders.

In September of last year, Sánchez raised eyebrows and protests in Spain after an official visit to Cuba, the first by any Spanish head of government in more than 32 years.
