Acting on behalf of the Chinese Red Cross, Chinese Ambassador to Mexico Qui Xiaoqi presented a check for $100,000 to Mexican Red Cross President Fernando Suinaga Cárdenas as a humanitarian to help victims of the Jan. 18 Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, gasoline duct explosion.
The explosion occurred when hundreds of people were trying to collect petrol from an unlawful breach in the state-owned pipeline during a severe fuel shortage rooted in a government crackdown of gasoline theft.
As of Thursday, Jan. 24, the death toll for that explosion was 100, according to the Health Secretariat.
