Friday, March 8, is International Women’s Day (IWD).

International Women’s Day is marked by women’s groups around the world to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

It is officially commemorated at the United Nations every Mar. 8 in recognition of the universal struggle for gender equality, justice, peace and development.

The observation of the day began in the United States in 1909.
