Mexican Navy Seizes 1.1 Tons of Cocaine

Mexico’s navy seized 1.1 tons of cocaine and arrested three alleged smugglers off the southeast coast of the southern state of Chiapas, the naval authorities said on Tuesday, Sept 3.

The operation was carried out on Monday, Sept. 2,

after marines detected a small boat in Pacific waters, some 170 kilometers northeast of Port Chiapas, near the Mexican border with Guatemala.

An aircraft, two helicopters and a patrol boat were used in the operation, according to the report.

Authorities said the smugglers threw 27 bags of cocaine into the ocean, but marines were able to retrieve them.
