Woody Scents Squared

The Canadian-based fashion and fragrance house Dsquared2 — run by twin brother Dean and Dan Caten — has just released a new duo fragrance collection: Wood Dsquared2 for Her and Wood Dsquared2 for Him.

The always-together brothers from Toronto started their fashion careers at the Parson’s School of Design in New York City back in 1984.

Eight years later, the Canadian dyad moved to Italy (the homestead of their parents) to develop their own brand.

Finally, in 1995, after working with some of Italy’s most celebrated fashion houses, Dsquared2 presented it first men’s collection in an extravagant runway show that grabbed international headlines.

But it was not until the brand began designing clothes for women — specifically, rockstar Madonna — that the Dsquared2 label really took off.

Today, Dsqaured2 designs for music stars around the globe, and has even opened a boutique in Mexico City on Avenida Presidente Mazaryk in Polanco, but the brothers have never forgotten their Canadian roots.

In tribute to the Great White North, the Caten brothers have based both of their new fragrances on indigenous Canadian woods.

Wood Dsquared2 for Her is a vibrant, ultra-feminine, fruity floral that opens with the sweet scent of magnolia and lily of the valley enveloped in a tangy blend of mandarin oranges and pink raspberries.

At its heart of the fragrance are exotic Himalayan osmanthus and Asian jasmine.

Wood Dsquared2 for Her closes with a subtle bouquet of cedar, white wood and amber ambroxan.

The opening of Wood Dsquared2 for Him, which is meant to complement and contrast with the female fragrance, is far more citrusy than its female counterpart, with a rush of Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon and Chinese mandarin oranges.

At its heart, the fragrance has a spicy blend of cardamom and ginger, wrapped in a haunting trail of purple violet leaves.

Wood Dsquared2 for men finishes with a tantalizing combination of vetiver, white wood and ambroxan.

Models Anna Ewers and Julian Schneider are the fronts for the two new fragrances.

Wood is available in Mexico at Sephora.

Also available at Sephora is Givenchy’s new signature scent, L’Inderdit Eau d’Toilette.

The original L’Inderdit fragrance was one of the first perfumes ever developed by Hubert de Givenchy, way back in 1957.

It was dedicated to the woman Givenchy considered the most important muse in fashion at the time, Audrey Hepburn.

A new hauntingly sensuous eau de parfum interpretation of the original L’Inderdit  — meticulously crafted by a trio of French perfumiers, Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo and Fanny Bal — was released last year and became an instant classic.

Now, that same triad of perfume masters have come together to create a lighter but still vibrant variant of the fragrance, L’Inderdit Eau d’Toilette.

This elegant but unconventional bouquet is intended to capture the thrill of the forbidden and every woman’s secret desire to rebel against social conformity.

L’Inderdit Eau d’Toilette is a concoction of contradictions, with sweet white jasmine, tuberose and orange blossoms mingled with the earthy aromas of woody patchouli and citrusy vetiver.

At its heart is the intoxicating essence of the poppy flower, which prevails as the dominant aura.

Appropriately fronted by the bewitchingly iconoclastic U.S. actress Rooney Mara, posed in a black evening gown in the Paris metro, L’Inderdit EDT is both sophisticated and avantgard.

Even the bottle is a homage to the original 1957 L’Interdit flask, with thick rounded glass tied with a gray satin ribbon around the neck and crowned with the Givenchy emblem.

Patently Shiny Lips

Revlon’s new Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish — available in 10 sumptuous shades — is the ultimate answer to stay-put, super-shiny lip color.

The built-in applicator gives precision coverage that makes applying on the go easy and secure, so you know your lips always look great, even if you put on color in the Metrobús.

Even the names of the colors inspire audacious self-assurance: Fearless Who?, She’s on Fire, Cherry on Top, So Shady, Power Up, Violet Frenzy, Date Night, Game On, Act Natural and — of course — Rule the World.
