Ten Mexican nationals are suing the U.S. chain store Walmart for failing to protect its customers in an August mass shooting that left 22 people dead in El Paso, Texas, the Mexican Foreign Relations Secretariat (SRE) said on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

“The objective … is to hold the company accountable for not taking reasonable and necessary measures to protect its customers from the attack at its Cielo Vista branch in El Paso,” SRE said in a press release statement statement.

“Through this lawsuit, the plaintiffs not only seek justice for themselves, but also security for the public in general.”

The law office of Lynn Coyle, in coordination with the Mexican Consulate in El Paso, filed the suit in the United States, SRE said.
