Due to the fact that most Mexican families will not be going out to mark Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10 (a longstanding tradition in Mexico), because of the expanding covid-19 pandemic, the Mexico City Culture Secretariat will offer a special online Mother’s Day mariachi concert to celebrate the occasion.

The seven-hour Mariachi Virtual Festival, which will include the participation of 16 of Mexico’s leading mariachi bands, will be broadcast lon the Capital Cultural en Nuestra Ciudad digital platform, the Capital 21 open television channel and government social networks.

The concert will begin at 12 noon local time with an emotional interpretation of Mexico’s classic “Las Mañanitas” celebratory song, followed by performances by  Blanco y Negro, Julio Ponze y Mariachi Estampas de México, Charros de Jalisco, Amanecer Jalisciense and México de Noche performing at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.

After the mariachi festival, there will be a performance by Peruvian singing sensation Tania Libertad, starting at 8 p.m.
