The export of Mexican goods to the United States dropped by more than 48 percent in April, to just $15.823 billion, due to the economic slowdown provoked by the global covid-19 pandemic, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
This figure represents the lowest flow of Mexican goods northward since records first began to be taken in 1985.
As a result of the historic drop in exports, Mexico ceased to be the United States’ largest trade partner, being overtaken by China and Canada, respectively.
About 80 percent of all Mexican exports are to the United States.
