Let’s face it: Unless there is a sudden miraculous act of God that wipes the plague of covid-19 off the face of the earth tomorrow, face masks and hand sanitizers are going to be our constant companions for quite some time to come (at least until there is a universally available vaccine against the novel coronavirus).

But that doesn’t have to cramp your style.

After all, fashion has always been about evolution, and having to adapt your personal dernier cri to incorporate a N95 surgical mask doesn’t mean you  have to give up on swank.

Since (if you are wearing your face mask correctly) your mouth, nose and chin are pretty much going to be out of public view, the focus now in terms of makeup should be on your eyes.

You want to draw special attention to your eyes because now it is not only  your most prominent (visible) facial feature, but it is also the way you will express emotions and feelings to those you see in public.

Whether you decide to go dramatic with a cat-eye liner and smoky makeup or stick to subtle colors and understated cosmetics, now is the time for your eyes to shine.

Here are some new products that can help you make a statement with a glance of your peepers.

And while we’re at it, we have included some ideas for revamping your quarantine-neglected hair style.

A Rainbow of Colors

One of the easiest ways to draw attention to your eyes is through color.

And today’s shadows are highly pigmented, ultra-blendable and come in an impressive array of shades.

For starters, consider using one of the 12 new shades of Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Color Pencils.

These extremely versatile cream eyeshadow sticks offer intense hues with zero creases and zero transfers. (By the way, cream shadows have the advantage of not drying out sensitive lid skin like powders can, so they are better for you.)

Laura Mercier Caviar sticks offer effortless application, intense, buildable color and up to 12-hour wear.

Pigment-rich shades in creamy shimmer and matte finishes glide seamlessly onto the lids, and the luxe formulation gives you plenty of time to smudge, blend, line, fill or define, so you can effortlessly create any look you are going for.

Moreover, Caviar Stick Eye Colors layer easily over or under other eyeshadows, including powder.

Founded in 1996 by the world-renowned makeup artist and pioneer of the “flawless face,” the Laura Mercier line is also known for its  super-light loose setting powders, phenomenal primers, perfecting concealers and tinted moisturizers.

Doe Eyes

No matter what shade of shadow you choose to highlight your eyes, be sure to frame them with a full and unclumped curtain of lush lashes.

Try to avoid using fake lashes for now because they can require some serious maintenance, and you don’t want to have fiddle with gluing on a slipping lash while balancing your face mask and hand sanitizer in a public restroom.

Instead, consider L’Oréal Paris’ new Bambi Eye False Lash, which creates the same effect as false lashes without the fuzz and expense.

This new, must-have, waterproof, instant eye-opening mascara gives lashes unexpected volume and doe-like length with a single application.

The specially designed, wide-bristled brush is curved to coat and curl, lash-by-lash, from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye, with absolutely no clumps.

And because the brush has a combination of both short and long bristles, it also provides lash separation and definition.

Bambi Eye False Lash lasts-all-day, black velvety formula can be removed easily with either soap and water or eye makeup remover, and will not smudge or flake.

L’Oréal Bambi Eye False Lash is ophthalmologist and allergy tested, and is suitable for use by both contact lens wearers and people with sensitive eyes.

And be sure to add an extra coat of mascara because you want your eyes to stand out from behind those protective googles or face shield.

Hair Tamer

Chances are that it has been a while — as in, too long — since you had a professional hair trim, and that means your ends are more likely to be ragged and split.

Add to that the fact that Mexico’s rainy season is in full swing, and you have a recipe for a perfect storm in terms of hair frizz.

But worry not.

Olaplex Hair Protector No. 3, available through the Privalia website, can tame unruly tresses and leave your hair looking like you just stepped out of your stylist’s salon.

Used just once a week, Olaplex Hair Protector No. 3 is this up-and-coming Californian brand’s global bestseller, and is an at-home treatment, not a conditioner. (You should leave it on for at least 10 minutes, but it can be left on for up to several hours or even overnight for a serious treatment process.)

Olaplex’ unique patented formula helps improve broken hair fibers from the inside out, strengthening disulphide bonds and follicle structure to dramatically reduce breakage and visibly strengthen hair.

Olaplex also has a range of shampoos, conditioners and styling creams that can put undisciplined tresses in their place.
