It’s fall again, and that means a time to revamp your wardrobe and bring out your cosy sweater collection to keep you warm and comfy as Jack Frost begins to replace soft, summer breezes with nippy autumn gusts.

But it is not just your garments that need a seasonal makeover in fall.

Your skin care routine also needs a revamping.

As cooler weather sets in, dermatologists say that it is crucial that you also transition your daily beauty routines so that your skin is a bright and radient in the autumn as it was in the summer.

Cooler weather usually means less humidity, and regardless of what type of skin you have, that can lead to dryness and flaking, as well as sensitivity, irritation and breakouts.

The best thing you can do to prevent these conditions is to flood your face with moisture and hydration, starting with a serum to penetrate deep, and then layering on creams and moisturizers to create a protective shield that will lock in humidity and block outside irritants.

If your skin is particularly dry at this season, try switching your standard day and night creams for thicker, more nourishing alternatives.

And don’t forget to use lip balm and eye cream. (Remember, the eye around your eye is the most fragile on your body,)

This is also a good time to ease back on the use of retinols and other exfoliating agents that can chap skin.

Using a humidifier at night will help with dryness, and don’t forget to layer on the sunscreen.

Just because the weather is colder now does not mean you can forsake protection from UV rays.

The Ultimate Serum

Even if you don’t usually use a serum the rest of the year (you really should, it can increase the effectiveness of your face cream by as much as 400 percent), you should definitely be using one in the fall.

Not only do they provide targeted care for specific skin problems from acne flairs to wrinkle visibility, they are super-concentrated.

While creams and moisturizers generally contain about 5 to 10 percent active ingredients, serums are packed with up to 70 percent of these ingredients.

And because serums are lighter and made to penetrate deep into subcutaneous dermis cells, they can supercharge your complexion to even tone, reduce fine lines, brighten, firm and help get rid of dark spots.

Fortunately, Dior has just added a new Super Potent Serum to its extraordinary Capture Totale Cell Energy line, the brand’s most powerful and complete antiaging collection yet, drawing on more than 30 years of scientific research using the regenerative properties of stem cells (more appropriately called “mother cells” in both French and Spanish) and the floral potency of the longoza flower from the Dior Gardens in Madagascar.

Fronted by Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen — the new face for the entire Capture Totale Cell Energy collection — Dior Capture Totale Cell Energy Super Potent Serum (with 91 percent natural origin ingredients) harnesses the regenerative power of the longoza (known as the eternal flower because of its unique ability to regenerate itself, even on burnt earth) to bring new energy and vitality to weaken stem cells.

Working with medical biologists, Dior scientists have discovered that not only does the number of stem cells in our body decrease with age, but their energy potential can decrease by as much as 50 percent, resulting in a drop in their regenerative capacity.

The new Dior Super Potent Serum helps to reactivate that potential and restore full regenerative power to mother cells, the driving force of skin, to create a firmer, plumper, healthier, more glowing complexion in just one week.

The serum’s next-generation formula is also infused with acetylated hyaluronic acid to maximize results, and its soft, milky texture instantly penetrates skin to prepare it to better absorb and exploit the equally age-defying effects of the Dior Capture Totale Cell Energy Firming and Wrinkle-Correcting Creme.

L’Oréal Paris Revitalift also has a new Derm Intensives Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which acts as both a plumper and filler.

With intensive hydrating 1.5 percent pure hyaluronic acid, Revitalift Derm Serum is a dermatologist validated, highly-concentrated skin plumper that immediately hydrates and fills wrinkles from the inside out in just two weeks.

Hyaluronic acid — which can contain 1000 times its weight in water — is naturally produced by our bodies and plays a critical role in skin’s youthful appearance.

But the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid decreases starting in our mid-20s and must be topically supplied as a key step after cleansing.

Because of its large molecular size, hyaluronic acid has to be modified in order to penetrate to lower levels of the skin.

The new Revitalift Derm Intensives Hyaluronic Acid Serum formula has been designed to provide a dual plumping and hydration effect by combining hyaluronic acid of both high and low molecular weight.

The result is an immediate external filling and deeper long-term plumping over four weeks, for a smoother, more supple complexion.

A Bite of the Apple

Once you have applied the appropriate serum for your skin (remember, different serums target different concerns, so it is important to choose one that will accomplish your unique skincare goals), it is time to seal in all the nutritional goodness with a day or night cream (again, suited to your particular skin type).

Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories, the Israeli cosmetics company headquartered in Lod, has just introduced its new Apple of Sodom line, packed with a mega cocktail of Dead Sea minerals and Sodom apple, to nourish, refine, tighten and energize skin, while fighting early signs of aging through a mild botox-like numbing of facial nerves.

Ahava was the first beauty company to incorporate the fruit of the apple of Sodom tree into its products.

The milky apple of Sodom sap is known for its healing properties and has been used for centuries to reduce irritation and swelling of sensitive or irritated skin.

It also acts as a barrier to external stressors and promotes extracellular matrix balance.

Ahava’s new Apple of Sodom collection includes a 24-Hour Deep Wrinkle Cream, an Activating Soothing Essence, an Overnight Deep Wrinkle Mask and a Deep Wrinkle Filler.
