It’s never too early to start your holiday shopping, and since there seems to be no sign of the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic easing up soon, buying your gifts now — before the stores get crowded and the weather gets colder — is a great way to protect yourself from infection and avoid the Christmas rush.

For many people in Mexico this year, the holiday season in Mexico will be a toned-down version of those of years past, with smaller gatherings and less indulgence.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be special, and finding the right gift for everyone on your list — whether on line or at your favorite store — will help to make you a pandemic blues buster.

Scents of Persuasion

Creed — that legendary French fragrance house that allegedly traces its origins back to 1760 and which claims to have created eau de colognes for celebrities and well-known political figures dating back to the Bishop of Paris in 1933 to (maybe) Winston Churchill (the company will only say that its Tabarome scent was “commissioned by a legendary British statesman who loved fine brandy and highest quality cigars”) — is now more readily available in Mexico.

As of this month, you can find five of Creed’s most iconic scents — Aventus, Aventus For Her, Aventus Cologne, Millesime Imperial and Silver Mountain Water — in Mexico City’s Palacio de Hierro Moliere and in select points of sale in Monterrey.

Creed claims that the fresh, woody fragrance of Aventus and Aventus Cologne — the brand’s two most famous scents — was supposedly inspired by the legendary life of a historic emperor, celebrating strength, power and success.

It opens with bergamot, blackcurrant leaves, apple and pineapple to expand to notes of pink berries, birch, patchouli and jasmine and to close with a bouquet of must, oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla.

The feminine interpretation of Aventus, Aventus for Her, has similar notes, but is softened with the essences of Bulgarian and Turkish roses, sweet peach, lilacs and ylang ylang.

Creed’s Millesime Imperial, which the company bills as a unisex fragrance “fit for royalty,” is an invigorating blend of citruses, irises and musk.

And Silver mountain Water is an airy green cologne that evokes sparkling streams coursing through the snow-capped Swiss Alps with wisps of green tea, neroli and sandalwood.

Watching the Clock

In a year like no other, the luxury Swiss watch brand Tag Heuer has launched a special edition 2020 timepiece to commemorate Mexico’s Carrera Panamericana sportscar race, which in October celebrated its 70th year.

Tag Heuer, which is one of the official sponsors of the race, has produced a limited edition 45-millimeter-diameter Carrera Tourbillon watch just for Mexico, with a sleek matte black ceramic casing, a domed, beveled sapphire anti-reflective crystal, and a black opaline dial to mark the hours and minutes.

The dial hands are bathed in pink, 18-karat gold and the ceramic bisel is engraved with the name “Mexico.”

This special Tag Heuer commemorate watch is available with either a black leather or crocodile wrist band.

The Tourbillon watch’s internal workings are displayed in a titanium cage at precisely 6 o’clock.

Founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer, the Tag Heuer brand started out as Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG in St-Imier, Switzerland.

In 1965, the Luxembourg-based Tag Group purchased a majority stake in the company, renaming it Tag Heuer.

Empowering Batteries

During the holiday season, it is important to always have spare batteries on hand (for all those annoying batteries-not-included gifts and to make sure the remote controls don’t lose their zap while you’re binging on your favorite series).

Energizer Max zero-mercury batteries are made to power everyday devices, including toys, flashlights, clocks and remote controls, and to hold power up to 10 years in storage, so you are never left powerless.

And Energizer Max Plus batteries are the longest-lasting and best-performing alkaline batteries on the market today, with a 12-year shelf life and in-device leakage protection.

Whether for wireless video game controllers or a computer mouse or that mechanical toy robot that Uncle Louis gave junior for Christmas, these batteries keep on going, and going, and going…

This year, the Energizer Bunny is playing Santa Claus to help everyone stay connected and keep on going in these times of covid-19 and shutdowns.

Energizer’s Conectate Más (Be More Connected) campaign means that, for a limited time, specially marked blister packs of Energizer Max or Energizer Max Plus batteries sold in Mexico now come with a gift card code to give your cell phone a 200-megabyte boost.

To cash in on the promotion, just sign in at conectateconenergizer.com, type in your cellphone number, and register the code that appears on your Energizer gift card.

And don’t forget, batteries make great last-minute stocking fillers.
