Vehicle sales in Mexico rose 13 percent in November compared to the previous month, for seven consecutive months of growth following the economic impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) said on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Mexican distributors sold 95,485 vehicles in November, compared to 84,307 units the previous month, according to Inegi.

In April, severe pandemic forced the suspension of some economic activities and sales plummeted to 34,903 units.

The deputy general director of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), Guillermo Rosales, said that despite the monthly rise in November, the figure represented a 23 percent drop year on year, confirming the slow recovery of the domestic market.

“The short-term outlook points to a similar scenario as in recent months, presenting as the main risk an accelerated increase in infections that lead authorities to restrict economic activity and mobility” once again, Rosales said.

Between January and November of this year, a total of 843,986 vehicles were sold, a 29 percent drop compared to the same period last year, according to AMDA data.
