The dance is choreographed by Raúl Tamez, who was inspired by the music of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and will be performed by 20 dancers from La Infinita Compañía.

The performance coincides with the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

Tamez stated that the performance is a tribute to those who have lost their lives because of their sexuality, gender, race and religion.

These themes are interwoven into the set of the dance, designed to look like a concentration camp, where the dancers will bring the victims struggles to light through their performance.

“The Ninth Symphony: Contemporary Dance” will be performed from Friday, Dec. 11, to Sunday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. at the Theater of the Arts.

Cenart assures those planning to attend the performance that social distancing guidelines will be followed.
