Trending Beauty (What’s New, What Works)

Okay, so 2020 was a real dud, and the new year has begun with a rather rocky start.

But that doesn’t mean we have to accept that 2021 is going to be a replay of last year.

It is time, albeit a bit belatedly, to put those New Year resolutions into full play, starting with a personal fashion and beauty makeover.

So ditch the clingy bike shorts, kitschy sweaters and over-the-top tiger prints (they are, after all, so 2020!), along with the multi-hued shadow and colorful lower eyeline (far too comic-booky to be flattering), and roll out a whole new you.

After 10 months in social hibernation, its time to go glam and romantic and to indulge in personal luxury from head to toe.

Turn Back the Hands of Time

The healing and restorative properties of orchids has long been known and curated by the French beauty house Guerlain, and, after nearly a decade of transglobal scientific research, the luxury brand is about to release its latest skincare breakthrough, Orchidée Impériale Micro Lift.

Coming in February, this newest member of Guerlain’s exclusive Orchidée Impériale line pampers and repairs skin while indulging it in the luxury of rare orchid extracts.

Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Micro Lift represents the ultimate alchemy of technology and nature, combining latest-generation microencapsulation with the extraordinary power of the orchid’s longevity.

Its organically derived formula (92 percent all natural ingredients), with 7,000 micro-sculptors, works like a series of tiny micro-lifts on the skin to produce a visible lifting effect while enveloping the skin in intense comfort.

The micro-sculptors, combined with the revitalizing power of millions of orchid molecules, create a serum that dramatically diminishes early signs of aging through a subtle tightening mesh.

The orchid, a rare and precious raw ingredient, and the most developed species within the plant kingdom, is the very essence of the exceptional complete care range of Orchidée Impériale.

Convinced of its outstanding potential to reverse fine lines and other early signs of aging, Guerlain established the first-ever orchid research center, the Orchidarium, a platform that spans three countries, each playing a key role in the preservation of orchids and ensuring access to the benefits of their unique properties. The multinational Guerlain Orchidarium includes a biodiversity nature reserve in China, an experimental garden in Geneva and a basic research laboratory in Strasbourg, France.

This unique center discovered the extraordinary powers of a duo of orchids — including one that is essential to traditional Chinese medicine –- selected from among more than 30,000 species, forming the core of the latest cell respiration technology in the Orchidée Impériale collection and culminating with Orchidée Impériale Micro Lift.

Change of Color

Fashion experts (like Pulse News Mexico’s own Kelin Dillon) predict that the “in” colors of 2021 are going to be yellow and gray.

Yellow is traditionally associated with sunshine, hope and happiness (and we all need a bump of happiness after 2020) and stands for freshness, positivity, clarity and energy.

Gray, on the other hand, is cool, neutral and balanced, and is a timeless and practical color that communicates some of the strength, sophistication  and mystery of black, without its negativity.

In keeping with the trend, Jessica Cosmetics has added three new shades to its nail polish line: a bright, fresh banana gamboge called Yellow Lightening, a more muted Summer Yellow, and a stately, office-worthy silver-gray Monarch.

All Jessica custom nail colors are made from an environment-friendly formaldehyde-, DBP- and Toluene-free formula that slides on smooth and stays fresh.

And with Jessica polishes, there will be absolutely no chipping and no peeling, so your manicure will look great for up to two weeks.

Let it Roll

Dior has just released a new roller-pearl version of its emblematic Miss Dior Rose N’Roses eau de toilette, perfect for travel and quick fragrance retouches on the go.

The graceful Miss Dior Rose N’Roses roller-pearl is discreet and elegant, housed in a tasteful glass bottle topped with a crystalline rollerball for easy roll-on application.

Miss Dior Rose N’Roses was first introduced a year ago, and became an instant classic, infusing the exceptional complexity and richness of the Grasse rose from France and the subtle and delicate aroma of the Damask rose from Turkey to create a luscious bouquet that is both romantic and alluring.

The Grasse rose is renowned for its heady, voluptuous, all-encompassing scent that has made the French region where it is grown synonymous with fine perfumes.

The delicate Damask rose, on the other hand, it understated and mysterious, with exotic notes of spice intermingled with its fragrant floral core.

Miss Dior Rose N’Roses encapsulates the essence of these two queens of roses to create an unprecedentedly luxurious eau de toilette.

Invigorated by the citrusy zest of sweet bergamot and heightened by carnal notes of white musk, Miss Dior Roses N’Roses captures the enchantment of an armful of fresh rose petals and the vibrant energy of a sparkling natural spring, unconfined and exuberant.

In keeping with Dior tradition, the dominant ingredient of the fragrance is that of the Grasse rose, Christian Dior’s favorite flower.

But to give Rose N’Roses an earthy touch of wild blossoms and open fields, François Demachy, the EDT’s in-house creator, stirred in the minty essence of geraniums heightened by the intensity of white musk.

Dior also has roller-pearl presentations of the other two Miss Dior interpretations, Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet and the original Miss Dior.
