Mexico City will remain in the covid-19 red high-risk category for yet another week, until the capital’s surging number of coronavirus cases begins to subside, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said, Friday, Jan. 29,
Department stores and shopping malls in the city will remain closed at least through Feb. 8, she said.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring State of Mexico (Edoméx), malls will be allowed to reopen on Monday, Feb. 1, for curbside service and restricted hours.
As of Friday, hospital occupancy in the metropolitan area had decreased over a 10-day period, for a total of 7,244 covid patients in the Valley of Mexico, down from 9,851 patients a week earlier, according to Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, head of the government’s Digital Agency for Public Innovation (ADIP).
