Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3, that the government of Spain had extradited disgraced Mexican businessman Alonso Ancira Elizondo back to Mexico that very same day.

Ancira was transferred from Palma de Mallorca jail early on Wednesday morning onto an official Mexican aircraft and was expected to arrive the same day to Mexico either in Toluca or directly flown into FGR facilities.

The extradition follow’s Ancira’s arrest in Spain back in 2019, following accusations of money laundering during the sale of his company, Agronitrogenados, to the state-run oil venture Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), during which he was alleged to receive a $200 million surcharge for the sale, a sum he has since agreed to return to the Mexican government.
