Not only has Mexico City (CDMX) registered the highest numbers of covid-19 deaths worldwide during the now-year-long pandemic, but the country also ranks among the the top three with the highest number of confirmed cases of the virus, the highest mortality rates and the highest number of active cases.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) sources, the Mexican capital has a higher death rate than any other American city, including Lima and New York.

Moreover, according to a study conducted by independent medical analysis Mario Zavala and Laurianne Despeghel, CDMX, with a population of about 22 million, has five times as many per capita deaths than other major capitals, with at least 83,235 covid fatalities.

Madrid, in comparison, with 6.5 million inhabitants, has registered 2,896 covid deaths for every million inhabitants, for a total of 19,081.

In London, with a population of 8 million, the comparable figures are 1,787 deaths per million.
