A handful of Mexican designers will show their latest collections at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia (MBFWR) this upcoming Thursday, April 22, via curated fashion films, giving worldwide exposure to a choice selection of Mexican brands, set to be broadcast live on international publications like Vogue Russia.

The brands Vero Diaz, Collectiva Concepción and Alejandra Raw will show their creations at the Russian iteration of Fashion Week as representatives for Mexico, as MBFWR works to unveil collections from a multitude of countries, including Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Cyprus, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“Part of the achievements is that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia has opened the doors for us by asking us to invite Mexican designers to be part of the billboard of contents of this important international fashion week. We proposed three Mexican creatives, with a DNA of their brands very different from each other,” Beatriz Calles, deputy director of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico, said in a statement.

Calles also highlighted how Mexico was one of the first countries in the world to adopt a completely digital platform back in April 2020 in order to adapt to the “new normal” created by the global covid-19 pandemic.

Mexico is a part of the Global Council and Fashion Week Forum along with 35 other countries, which meets once a month to discuss their experiences and work on how to improve the fashion industry in the future.

Collectiva Concepción will present its collection “Ecos,” inspired by the novel “Pedro Páramo” by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo, consisting of 52 pieces, mainly made of linens and loom-work from Chiapas and Michoacán.

The group originally showed “Ecos” in London earlier this year, but told FashionNetwork that “having the opportunity to be part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia excites us greatly.”

Vero Diaz will present its latest collection “Nativa” at MBFWR, consisting of 38 looks that were created in only two weeks, since the designer had no intention of launching a collection this year, “but when the invitation from Russia arrived, we decided to do it and the result has been exceptional.”

“Our main inspiration is the diversity of flora and landscapes of our state, Yucatán, we take details such as the atmosphere of the haciendas and add it to our DNA to show the more adventurous side of the Vero Diaz woman, this without losing the romanticism that It characterizes us,” Diaz said in an interview with FashionNetwork.

The designs feature beige, green, white and black tones meant to mimic the very nature “Nativa” takes inspiration from, using linen, chiffon and lace textiles.

Alejandra Raw will reveal its designs through a fashion film titled “Paradiso Perduto” inspired by angels and faith, consisting of nine total looks in total, heavily featuring emerald green and other raw tones, made from 100 percent cotton.

“I hope that through MBFWR we can reach and inspire many more people. That my design reaches further, and is seen by more people is wonderful,” said Raw.

The Guadalajara designer also mentioned her determination to “continue to implement more and more environmentally friendly textiles and as always continue to evolve and mature our design and brand.”

During MBFWR’s live reveal on Thursday, Collectiva Concepción will show at 11:00 a.m. Mexican time, followed by Vero Diaz at 11:30 a.m., and Alejandra Raw will close out the trio at 1:00 p.m, and can be streamed live on the Vogue Russia website.
