As of the end of 2020, Mexico is now the world’s largest exporter of strawberries, displacing Spain for the very first time in more than two decades-

According to the Mexican Secretariat of the Economy, the country’s international strawberry sales totaled $851 million in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 12.4 percent.

In that same year, strawberry sales in Spain amounted to $646 million, while those of the United States, which placed in third place globally, totaled $477 million.

Mexico’s main strawberry market is the United States, the largest importer of strawberries in the world, while the largest foreign sales destinations for Spanish strawberries are European countries.

More than 99 percent of Mexican strawberry exports in 2020 were for the United States market.
