The investigation by the Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) into President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO) brother Pío López Obrador regarding his alleged reception of funds to benefit the National Regeneration Movement’s (Morena) electoral campaigns will continue, following a ruling by the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) on the matter.

The Superior Chamber voted to reject one of Pío’s challenges against the investigation, which will now allow the INE to proceed with its investigation, while another lawsuit remains in process.

The inquiry was prompted after videos surfaced of Pío López Obrador allegedly receiving an envelope filled with cash from León Romero, the then-consultant to the governor of Chiapas, Manuel Velasco, back in August 2020.
