Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of infamous jailed Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, is expected to plead guilty on Thursday, June 10, to charges of helping her husband run his multibillion-dollar empire and aiding in one of his escapes from the high-security Mexican prison, according to a person familiar with the case.

Coronel Aispuro is slated to make her guilty plea before the Federal District Court in Washington.

The 31-year-old beauty queen was arrested at Dulles International Airport, near Washington, D.C., by U.S law enforcement agents in February on charges of being an accomplice to her husband, the former head of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel.

.El Chapo was convicted of drug-dealing and money-laundering in a trial in Brooklyn in 2019 and is currently serving a life sentence at the Supermax in Colorado, the most secure federal prison in the United States.
